Indonesian football witnessed, this Saturday, a tragedy. After the match between Arima, played by Portuguese players Abel Camara and Sergio Silva, and Persebaya, which ended in a 2-3 loss for the home team, hundreds of fans clashed and 127 people died, including two policemen. There are still 180 wounded.

According to local media, the confusion began after the final whistle. Dissatisfied with the 2-3 defeat, fans of Arima, the host team of Portuguese Abel Camara – who scored both goals – and Sergio Silva, stormed the field to please the team. The police started firing tear gas, which was banned by FIFA, and the panic of the fans, as well as the confusion, caused many to fall and they ended up being run over by the fans who tried to leave the stadium at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang.

According to CNN Indonesia, 127 people died – 34 died in the stadium, the rest are already in hospital – and the unrest spread to the immediate vicinity of the stadium, where there were clashes between fans and police. There are still a record 180 wounded.

“127 people died, two of whom were police officers. 34 of the fatalities died in the stadium, and the others died in hospital while receiving treatment. 180 injured people are still receiving medical care,” said Nico Aventa, Inspector General. from the police.

The two clubs have already spoken of their regrets about the clashes. The tournament has been suspended for at least a week.
