The municipality of Montemor-o-Velho unanimously decided, Friday, at the Chamber meeting, not to accept the transfer of the exercise of powers in the health field under the conditions proposed by the Regional Health Department of the Center.

The values ​​given in the ARSC proposal are below the real needs, given the deteriorating physical conditions of the property, as no interventions or maintenance have been carried out in the buildings over the years, and do not take into account a range of situations, such as the impact of the pandemic.

The municipality is committed to providing a high-quality service in a sensitive area such as health, in protecting the interests of the population, as it has always demonstrated, both in the investments made in the local health units and in the support provided in the vaccination process against Covid-19, and is also a partner of the Baixo Mondego Group Health Center Group is engaged in projects aimed at providing health care to the population and preventing disease. But it cannot agree to transfer of competencies without ensuring that resources are adequate in terms of management, maintenance and maintenance of non-clinical equipment and property, where the values ​​are out of step with reality and effective needs.

In terms of human resources as well, there is a discrepancy between the number of operational assistants to be transferred to the municipality and the number of health units present in the territory.

Emilio Torrio also stressed that the position taken today by the Executive of Montemorins “follows the decision of the Municipal Council of the Coimbra Region, which emphasizes the need to review the assumptions of the transfer of the exercise of powers”.
