The most effective way to avoid infection. Vaccination reached more than 74% of the target audience in Minas, but the target was 95%.

Minas will receive 400,000 doses of meningitis C vaccine until next Tuesday (2). The new shipment will be used to cover vaccinations for those over the age of 16, as the campaign has been extended to the public until July 30.

On Thursday (27), the Secretary of State for Health (SES-MG) announced the expansion of the campaign to the non-priority public, but it is still waiting for immunizations to be dispatched by the Ministry of Health. In Belo Horizonte, doses ran out ahead of schedule.

According to SES-MG, the expansion is due to the high demand for the vaccine across the state in recent days and, above all, the importance of ensuring that the population is immunized. This year, three people have already died from meningococcal disease in Minas. In 2022, there will be 22 deaths.

Once they arrive, the doses will be separated and sent to the state’s regional health units. Each municipality must clear the request according to the local reality and formalize the dose request to SES-MG, to ensure the timely availability of the vaccine for the population.

in the children’s calendar

The meningitis C vaccine is available for children on the Department of Health’s national immunization calendar on the primary schedule in two doses, at 3 and 5 months of age, and a booster dose, preferably, at 12 months of age.

Children who for some reason missed the opportunity to be vaccinated at the specified ages can be vaccinated up to 4 years, 11 months and 29 days of age.
