Referring to the declarations made in the press (November 20) by the Prime Minister’s Spokesman of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (November 20), he said, “The issue of the Malvinas Islands is a theme to be resolved. It has been a long time and there is no plan to revise the British position”, the Argentine government said these statements Rejected and recalls a dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom over sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, Georgias del Sur. and Sandwich del Sur and surrounding marine areas was recognized by the General Assembly in 1965 by resolution 2065(XX) and subsequently reiterated on numerous occasions in the Assembly and its Special Committee on Recolonization and other regional and multilateral forums. .

In particular, resolution 37/9, adopted by the General Assembly in November 1982, a few months after the South Atlantic conflict, urged both parties to resume sovereignty negotiations and directed the Secretary-General to undertake the work of good offices to address the parties. As a result, the conflicts did not change the nature of the dispute, which remains pending resolution to this day.

In these 40 years of democracy, various Argentinian governments have requested the United Kingdom to renew bilateral negotiations, creating a principle of statehood enshrined in the first transitional clause of the national constitution. This provision affirms the legal and implicit sovereignty of the Argentine Republic over the Islas Malvinas, Georgias del Sur and Sandwich del Sur and the associated sea and island spaces, as they are an integral part of the national territory, and establishes the restoration of these. Territories and the full exercise of its sovereignty, respect for the way of life of its citizens and compliance with the principles of international law constitute the permanent and irrevocable objective of the Argentine Pueblo.

As a demonstration of this commitment to a peaceful settlement of the dispute, on 2 March, Argentina proposed to the United Kingdom a renewed bilateral agenda in the South Atlantic. Among them, the renewal of sovereignty negotiations.
