North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally supervised the tests of two cruise missiles launched Saturday from a submarine, the Korean Central News Agency announced.

The Korean Central News Agency reported this evening (Monday in Pyongyang) that “cruise missiles flew over the East Sea (…) to strike the targeted island” on Sunday.

The South Korean military announced that North Korea launched several cruise missiles, at a time when tensions are escalating between the two neighbors on the Korean Peninsula.

He added: “Our army detected several unidentified cruise missiles launched near the waters [perto da cidade] From Sinpo, North Korea, at 08:00 [23:00 de sábado em Lisboa]”, the South Korean General Staff announced in a statement.

This week, Pyongyang launched cruise missiles towards the Yellow Sea west of the Korean Peninsula, claiming that they were a new generation of strategic cruise missiles.

Secret services in South Korea and North America are analyzing the launch and closely monitoring North Korea's movements and other activities.

Tests of cruise missiles flying in the atmosphere are not subject to sanctions imposed on North Korea by the United Nations. Unlike ballistic missiles, whose trajectory is mainly in space.

On Thursday, a day after Pyongyang launched cruise missiles, without specifying a number, North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency said the test was part of a “continuous weapons system modernization process and a regular and mandatory activity.”

He added, “The launch experience had no impact on the security of neighboring countries, and had no relation to the regional situation.”

Tensions between Pyongyang and Seoul have escalated sharply in recent months. The two enemy countries broke the agreements reached in 2018 to prevent armed incidents and increase military resources on the border.

Kim Jong Un said on New Year's Eve that the Korean peninsula is “increasingly moving closer to armed conflict” and last week ordered the removal of symbols of reconciliation with South Korea, which he calls a “main and constant enemy” and “first-class”. dummy”.

In response, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol noted that Kim's comments show the “anti-nationalist and anti-historical” nature of the North Korean administration, noting that his country maintains its defense preparedness and will punish the North “several times,” if that happens. It is a provocation.
