In fact, having “an organized work surface can be good for our mental health,” says Julia Trendle, design expert at Benchmarx Kitchens, a kitchen company in the UK.

It’s that, in general, “disturbance can make simple tasks, like putting dishes away, take longer,” he adds. Also, looking at a mess “causes stress, especially if we don’t have time to clean it up.”

Tips that will help you keep your countertop organized:

  • Make organization a daily habit, that is, when something is messy, put it in the right place or at the end of the day, arrange everything and don’t let it pile up;
  • setting clear and strict rules and defining what may (or may not) be on top of the stands;
  • Pick a few basics and don’t change your mind;
  • Install some kind of storage, such as shelves, for example, and make use of the walls;
  • Rethink what you keep in your closet and reorganize if necessary;
  • Reconsider the kitchen design if you want to remodel it;
  • invest in organizing things, like a spice rack;
  • Place a hood over the stove when not in use to take advantage of this space;
  • use baskets to organize ingredients and utensils;
  • organize everything into categories;
  • Stacking wood panels (or other materials) vertically or horizontally.
