Israel Katz, the Israeli Foreign Minister, went to a European Union meeting to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but only promoted plans to build an artificial island off the coast of Gaza, which drew criticism from Borrell.

EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell criticized Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz for promoting plans to build an artificial island off the coast of Gaza during a meeting in Brussels, which saw a humanitarian crisis in those Palestinian territories on the agenda.

According to the Guardian newspaper, the Spanish politician stated, “We had the honor of watching two very ‘interesting’ videos, one about a project for an artificial island that will serve as a port, and the other about a project to build an artificial island.” A railway linking the Middle East to India.

Borrell said: “I think the minister could have used his time better, and he was concerned about his country’s security and the high number of deaths that occurred in the Middle East and the Gaza Strip.”

The head of European diplomacy stressed that he is determined to reach a solution for the Middle East, whether Israel is ready or not. “Peace is a good general goal. No one says that it is against peace. From our point of view, we should stop talking about peace in the Middle East, but rather talk about details about the two-state solution.”

The Israeli and Palestinian Foreign Ministers attended, in different sessions, the monthly meetings of the heads of EU diplomacy, in which the ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan also participated.
