The formula launched in 1985 reached number one last Friday after gaining prominence in the sci-fi drama series Stranger Things, from streaming service Netflix.
“It’s extraordinary. (…) It’s a big series. I thought the track would get some attention, but I never imagined it would be something like this,” said Kate Bush, in an interview with BBC Radio 4.
“It’s so exciting. But it’s really shocking, isn’t it? I mean, the whole world has gone crazy.”
“Running Up That Hill” originally peaked on the numbers train in 1985, but rose again 37 years later when a new generation discovered it through a Netflix production.
Kate Bush is back at the top of the UK charts 44 years after doing so with her first single, “Wuthering Heights”.
In a rare interview, the 63-year-old also stressed that it’s “cool” that her music has “reached a whole new audience”, many of whom have never even heard of it.
“The idea of all these young people hearing and discovering music for the first time (…) is very special,” he added.
“Running Up That Hill” also ranked #1 in countries like Australia, Belgium and Sweden, and #4 in the US, debuting on Billboard’s Top Five list.
