Jardim Bella Vista and Villa Sotimo will host the joint efforts against dengue on Saturday (8) and Sunday (9) in Itapetininga (SP). The city this week confirmed its first two dengue deaths in 2024, with more than 3,900 cases this year.

Epidemiological surveillance directives are for residents to separate and place all unusable items that could accumulate water on their sidewalks.

On Saturday, the eighth of this month, the teams will collect materials from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As for Sunday, the ninth of this month, the measures will be concentrated in the neighborhoods from 7 a.m. until 12 noon.

Nearly 100 Itaptininga staff and staff will travel through neighborhoods to collect unusable items that can store water, thus eliminating the emergence of breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito responsible for diseases such as dengue, Zika and chikungunya.

Several trucks will be used for cleaning. This initiative is a multidisciplinary work between the departments of Education, Public Services, Works, Environment and Health, in addition to the Municipal Civil Defense. Materials such as debris, tree trimmings and wood will not be collected by teams and must be sent to a volunteer drop off point (PEV).

Point of Voluntary Drop Off (PEV), known as the new Ecoponto, is available for individuals to drop off small quantities of unusable items. On the site, people find trash bins identified by type of waste: construction, gardening, wood and recyclables. The new Ecoponto is located at Rua Alceu Corrêa de Moraes 1,109, in Jardim Vieira de Moraes, in front of Cooperita, and is open from Monday to Saturday (except holidays), from 8 am to 5 pm.

The aim of Mutirão is to prevent and combat the possible spread of the dengue mosquito and other disease vectors and to increase awareness among the population about the correct disposal of materials that can accumulate water. During the operation, six vector control teams will carry out coordinated action with the support of municipal administrations, removing materials deemed unusable that residents must leave in front of their homes. In addition, the places where materials are disposed of irregularly during the process will also be cleaned.

How will Motrao work?

According to the schedule, residents can cooperate by placing the materials they want to dispose of on the sidewalk in front of their homes. It is very important that residents leave trash at the curb on dates and times that are consistent with the schedule.

Residents can also help combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito by reporting areas with irregular disposal of materials or land filled with litter. Simply contact the following contacts to file complaints:

  • Vector Control Sector – (15) 3273-2567
  • SUS Ombudsman – 0800 774-3990
  • SAC-156.
  • All services operate Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.
  • The complaint will be investigated by the inspection sectors with an expected fine exceeding R$2,000.
