The Israeli Defense Forces bombed the Iranian embassy building in Damascus, the Syrian capital, on Monday, resulting in a number of deaths. According to Reuters, an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander was killed in the attack.

Syrian and Iranian media confirmed this afternoon that the Iranian embassy in the Mezzeh neighborhood was attacked, leading to the deaths of at least five people. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the United Kingdom, recorded eight deaths.

In response, an Israeli army spokesman simply said “not to comment on news from the foreign press.”

The head of Syrian diplomacy, Faisal al-Miqdad, was present at the site and stressed that “the Zionist-Israeli occupation regime will not be able to influence relations between Iran and Syria.”

On the Iranian side, the Foreign Minister explained, in a phone call with Faisal Al-Miqdad, that Iran holds Israel responsible for the attack on Damascus, considering it a “violation of all international conventions.” He also called on the international community to punish the Israeli government for recent “criminal acts.”

Since the Hamas attack on Israel, on October 7 last year, the Defense Forces have intensified their attacks against targets of the Revolutionary Guards (from Iran) and Hezbollah (pro-Iran) in Syria, both of which are supporters of Bashar al-Assad's regime. , in addition to the ongoing reprisals in the Palestinian territories.

Only in 2024, OSDH It has already documented 29 Israeli attacks in Syria, which resulted in the deaths of ten civilians and 115 fighters, including 13 Iranian members of the Revolutionary Guard and 19 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
