Of the 49,000 boys and girls between 10 and 14 years identified by the Ministry of Health as a priority age group to receive protection against dengue in the capital, only 7,000 have been effectively immunized. The rest did not return to health centers to ensure the booster dose, which should take place three months after the first dose. To try to change the situation, BH City Hall has decided to issue a new appeal, appealing to parents and guardians.

Those who have not even started the vaccination schedule still have time to settle their status at one of the 152 health centers in the city. The vaccine is also available at the traveler’s healthcare service.

Municipal Health Minister Danilo Borges Matías confirmed that “the second dose is what guarantees protection against dengue fever.” “Parents and guardians need to take their children and teens to this booster medication at the right time for the vaccine to be effective,” he stresses.

Can I go to get the vaccine alone?

In order for teens to get the vaccine, they must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. In addition, when applying, you must provide a photo identification document or birth certificate, CPF and vaccination card.

It is important to emphasize that the dengue vaccine cannot be given in conjunction with any other immunizer. For those recently diagnosed with the disease, the recommendation is to wait six months after symptoms appear to begin a vaccination schedule.

If infection with the virus occurs after receiving the first dose, there is no change in the interval between applications, as long as the second dose is not applied less than 30 days after illness onset.
