a Paella is undoubtedly one of the most famous dishes in Spain and there is no one visiting the country who does not go to a restaurant to look for the famous rice dish on the menu.

However, in Alicante, there is no restaurant serving this famous delicacy.

Many tourists visiting Valencia were surprised by this information, and asked in different restaurants why paella was not served.

According to La Vanguardia, in a city that prides itself on serving the best rice in the world, there is no major restaurant that does not include rice dishes among its specialties. But, to the bewilderment of many visitors, none of them are called “paella.”

This situation has already led tourists to wonder whether Alicante has an aversion to this term.

As the Spanish publication explains, what is happening is that these new rice dishes, offered by restaurants, contain a wide range of ingredients that are not part of the original paella recipe, so those responsible for the space decided to give it other names even because, they argue, the favorite dish in Alicante It is rice.

So, while in the past people gave different names to paella – mixed paella or marine paella – prompting tourists to complain that it was not real paella, nowadays discerning businessmen have decided to change the strategy.

Along those lines, it’s no surprise that a local Instagram user recently took to the street holding a sign that read, “Don’t order the paella, order the rice.” The action was part of a campaign aimed at reminding tourists that while paella is native to Valencia, Alicante’s favorite dish is rice.
