Gurrutxaga has been a professional footballer for 15 years and fulfilled his dream of playing in the first team of Real Sociedad, which made his La Liga debut at just 19 years of age. However, during his time in the Spanish Football League, he also suffered the worst part of the sport, when he became depressed and developed obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) due to stress.

Fortunately, he learned to laugh about it, became more of a comedian, and created a monologue that premiered on September 4th. Every Sunday this month, the former footballer and former musician also performs “FutbolisTOC, or How I Survived First Class”, at the Reina Victoria Theater in Madrid.

In a recent interview with AS, Gurrutxaga ensures he is “fine” now.

“I’m fine. A person learns to know himself, knows how to manage his fears, his nerves. I think OCD is a non-chronic thing, because I am sure there are people who have overcome it completely, but it is something that has always existed. I would say that I am 400% better than what I am. I was on it at the time, but especially in moments of stress, like now, when I have my debut, something always pops up. So you have to be careful that this disorder doesn’t win power and fight it. Fortunately, I now have my tools to do that. “, He said.
