The Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS) of Curitiba extends the call for a bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 for all those born up to 1958, starting from Tuesday (14). With this call, all people age 65 or older are covered, as well as those who will reach that age during 2023.

The new call includes 79,936 people between the ages of 65 and 69. A total of 138,554 seniors aged 70 and over have been called, but only 22,168 have turned up so far, which is 16% of the total.

The vaccine will be available to the new public and those previously called in at 107 health centres, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Addresses can be found at www.imunizaja.curitiba.pr.gov.br.

The Secretariat advises residents, as far as possible, to avoid most central units, whose movement is greatest, and to give priority to other units. The public called to boost with the bivalent vaccine receives a message via the Saúde Já Curitiba app. For those who cannot come to the scheduled appointments, the municipal health department provides continuous briefings at the health units.

In order to receive a bivalent virus vaccine booster, it is necessary, in addition to meeting the public recall criteria, to have had at least two doses of the virus vaccine beforehand and to have at least a 120-day interval since the last application.

People who have had Covid-19 must wait at least four weeks after the onset of symptoms to get vaccinated. In the case of people who have had other illnesses, the advice is to wait for symptoms not to appear.

Bedridden

Bedridden seniors in this age group will get the vaccine without leaving home. Those accompanying an SUS or previously vaccinated as bedridden should wait for the health unit team to visit.

Bedridden patients who are not monitored by SUS and who fall within the required age range should have the case indicated by Health already Curitiba application. On the main screen, just click on the “bedridden patient” tab and select the indicated patient.

The bivalent vaccine is the second generation of the immunogen, because it contains in its composition the original strain and sub-variants of Omicron, which have recorded greater turnover in recent months. Thus, the new booster potion provides another layer of protection for the vulnerable population.
