HeyNurses are demanding better salaries and better working conditions.

According to the advance notice published today in the press, the strike, called SEP, takes place between 08:00 and 24:00, covering morning and afternoon shifts, but including the provision of minimum basic services to meet “unavoidable social needs.” “.

Among the goals of the strike are “the fair and legal accounting of points held for advancement purposes, that is, those relating to the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 fiscal periods, the accounting of 1.5 points between 2004 and 2014, and the retroactive modernization of payment and entitlements.” Since 2018, due to changes in job position.

Also required is the activation of the so-called “career accelerator”, the transition to the specialized nursing category of all nurses who have not transitioned, “due to the legitimate exercise of their parental rights”, the effective engagement of all those in a risky relationship and the recruitment of more nurses according to needs.

The announcement of this strike comes one day before the scheduled meeting with the Minister of Health to begin negotiations on changing the salary scale and professional issues.

The nurses went on strike on May 10, but at the national level, in a strike also called by the Socialist Equality Party to demand the start of the negotiation process with the development of a memorandum of understanding on the issues to be negotiated (counting points, the nursing profession and other aspects) and its calendar.

Turnout in the May strike, which also included a rally at Campo Pequeno in Lisbon, was 76.8%, according to the Socialist Equality Party, and its effects were most visible in operating rooms and in outpatient consultations in hospitals.
