The Android app store is changing, and perhaps for the better. To that end, Google has announced that artificial intelligence is coming to its app and content store, the Play Store. The company also wants to make it easier for users to discover new apps, and it already knows how to do that.

Google Play wants to know your location on Android

To achieve this idea, Google announced a new feature called “Groups”, which is a new way Discover contentOn the other hand, the Play Store will also start recommending apps and content based on location, and for this purpose it wants to grant permission to know the location of users.

After updating to the latest version of Google Play Store (42.1.27) on Android, users started receiving a message from this app inviting them to access local recommendations in the app store.

Using this information, the Play Store will start offering local suggestions and recommendations. Google hopes this will make it easier to find apps that target specific communities, which is very useful.

The App Store will recommend local apps and content.

There are two very interesting aspects to this new Play Store feature: First, the fact that Google Play knows your location does not affect the region or country you have configured in your Google Play account. On the other hand, the Play Store will be able to access your approximate location and not your exact location on Android.

Anyone who regrets giving location access to Google Play and no longer wants to receive local recommendations can disable this feature by following these steps:

  • In the Google Play Store, tap your avatar in the upper right corner and select Settings.
  • Then select the year
  • Finally, disable the “Use device location” option.

This way, Google Play will no longer recommend content based on your general location. On the other hand, it is also possible to completely revoke access to your location on Google Play by withdrawing this permission.
