For some time now, Google has been trying to convince customers not only to buy more Chromebooks, but also more expensive models in this category with productive hardware. It is likely that these novelties will soon be released under the Chromebook X brand.

In 2022, the company is partnering with PC makers including Lenovo, Acer, and ASUS to produce next-generation Chromebooks compatible with game streaming services like Microsoft Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce Now. According to the portal 9to5Google, citing its own sources, Google is now preparing to debut the Chromebook X as a separate sub-family of Chromebooks. Previously, these models were classified as Plus and Premium. It is not excluded that the new name could change before the premiere.
The report says that the Chromebook X must meet certain requirements. In particular, they should be equipped with certain processors, including AMD Zen 2+ and Zen 3 models (it should be noted that the source description is likely to be a typo, since there is no Zen 2+ architecture), as well as Intel Core chips from Twelfth generation. Newer CPUs may also be used in the future. Additional requirements for the new series will be more RAM (usually small on Chromebooks) and high-quality webcams for video conferencing.
Chromebook X may receive software features that aren’t available on regular Chromebooks. For example, some programs will support creating subtitles in applications for real-time communication, it will be possible to blur the background during video conferencing, offline access to Google Drive files will be provided, and other features will appear.
According to reports, the first Chromebook X-branded Chrome OS laptops will appear before the end of 2023, likely closer to the fall-winter holiday season. At the same time, it is assumed that Google itself will not release models of this series, at least not yet. This will be done by the same Lenovo, ASUS and other partners.
As you know, the target audience for Chromebooks are buyers with relatively cheap budgets, so it remains to be seen how Google will promote the Chromebook X with enhanced features, which will definitely cost more than usual.
