UA giraffe gave birth at Chester Zoo in England last Thursday, March 14. The exciting moment of the calf's birth was captured on video.

In pictures – this You can see it in the gallery above – You can watch a baby Rothschild giraffe take its first steps 30 minutes after birth.

According to Chester Zoo, the baby giraffe “already weighs over 70kg and is 1.80m tall”.

The images reveal the birth of the newborn, who fell from a height of 1.8 meters into the hay, and the first minutes of her life – in which she breastfeeds, walks and stumbles.

Chester Zoo said: “Giraffes are born standing up, so make a dramatic entrance into the world. Orla's calf landed with a big bump after falling about two meters to the ground, but this is completely normal and actually a very important part of the birth process. The impact of the fall stimulates the calf and encourages it to take its first breaths.” Joined Rosie Owen said.

The person in charge said that “mother and baby are doing very well” and that Orla is an “experienced and caring mother” who therefore “allows her little one to breastfeed often and gives her little nudges to encourage her.”

Orla's pregnancy lasted 472 days and her labor lasted more than three hours before the calf was born, with keepers still unsure whether the giraffe is male or female, the Mirror newspaper reports.

In the future, the giraffe is expected to reach a height of more than 5.4 meters and a weight of 1,000 kg.

Tens of thousands of Rothschild's giraffes, the world's tallest mammal subspecies – of which only 2,500 remain in the wild – were once found in Kenya, Uganda and Sudan, however, their population has declined by 90% in recent years. years due to poaching and habitat loss.

The last major stronghold is now in Kenya and Uganda.
