LONDON, Jan 4 (ANSA) – The United Kingdom on Tuesday (4) registered a further 218,724 new cases of Covid-19, the highest number of infections in a single day since the outbreak.

According to data released by the British government, the country is reaching the mark of 200,000 positive diagnoses daily for the first time, and has recorded a further 48 deaths from the disease.

However, these numbers include data related to multiple dates because of delays across the country in updating infections during the holidays.

According to United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the balance “shows that the epidemic is not over and that those who think so are very wrong.”

The British Prime Minister pointed out that the Ômicron variant appears to be milder than the previous strain, which, along with vaccines, is controlling the number of serious illnesses, despite a significant increase in the number of hospital admissions.

Johnson supported the idea that as soon as the people get together, they get the level of reinforcement, and asked that the country not follow new control measures or even locks, and that everyone respect the official guidelines.

So far, 60% of the population over the age of 12 has already taken a booster dose against Govit-19.

In addition to the UK, 200,000 cases a day are reported in France today. In total, there are 271,686 infections, according to health officials.

French Health Minister Olivier Véran said for the first time in months, the number of patients admitted to hospital with Covit-19 disease exceeded 20,000 (20,186), almost 600 more than yesterday.

So far, more than 25.5 million French people have received the booster dose, while 51,833,129 have been fully vaccinated. (ANSA)
