London – President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that Brazil and England need to strengthen trade relations, as there are opportunities to explore them in both countries. According to him, in the past decade, there has been a huge gap between the economies, to the point that trade flow has decreased from US$8.6 billion to US$6.5 billion.

In an effort to reverse this situation, a working group was created to increase not only trade, but also cultural and scientific relations. Lula highlighted that Brazil’s proximity to England, in his first two terms, was such that the then UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, approached him for advice on labor issues.

The Brazilian CEO realized that England was not going through a good time, combining high inflation with low growth. But he stressed that he hoped the “young British prime minister”, Rishi Sunak, could make the country grow again. The two leaders met on Friday (05/05) and spoke for 45 minutes. Lula also participated in the coronation of King Charles III.
