First summer campaign against Aedes in Santos eliminates 131 larval outbreaks

Today, Wednesday (3), the Municipality of Aparecida implemented the first summer campaign of 2024 to combat mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya and others.

In total, 131 larvae infestations were eliminated at 2,430 properties visited by 70 endemic disease control personnel from the municipal health department.

As explained by the head of the Health Surveillance Department, Ana Paula Valeras, the summer joint efforts aim to effectively eliminate the outbreak and promote awareness among the residents of Santos, especially tourists who come in large numbers at this time of the year. During the summer group effort, a different neighborhood will be covered each week, starting with those in the Waterfront District, due to the increased floating population at this time. The next neighborhoods to host the event will be Embarí, José Menino, Pompeia and Buqueirao.

Considering the joint efforts implemented in 2023, 2,711 mosquito larvae outbreaks were eliminated. In the same year, Santos recorded 466 cases of dengue fever and 43 cases of chikungunya.
