Special 50 pence coin with face King Charles III Released in UK from this Thursday, 10th. About 5 million coins were distributed to post offices and bank branches to commemorate the British monarch’s coronation in May, the United Kingdom Mint said. This year.

This is the second 50-cent coin to be issued with the official portrait of King Charles III. First entered into circulation in December 2022, marking the historic transition from Queen Elizabeth II to King Charles II.

“This is a special moment for the nation, and the public will have the opportunity to discover a piece of history in its transition,” Rebecca Morgan, the Mint’s director of commemorative coins, said in a statement.

The design of the new coin features the iconic Westminster Abbey in homage to the site of the King’s coronation. At the center of the design is the official crown of Charles III, who was crowned king in Westminster Abbey. The design was created by designer Natasha Jenkins from Casa da Moida. The reverse features an official coin portrait of the King, issued in September 2022 and designed by sculptor Martin Jennings and personally approved by the King.

27 billion coins bearing Elizabeth II’s face will continue to circulate in the UK, according to the Mint. “Historically, it was common for coins to circulate with images of different monarchs. This ensures a smooth transition with minimal impact and environmental costs,” the company said in a statement. The coins, which bear the face of the late Queen in September 2022, will be replaced over time as they become damaged or worn.
