It is important that patients after obesity surgery are aware of their rights and seek legal support to ensure access to the procedures necessary for full recovery and quality of life.

Obesity surgery is a specific medical procedure to treat morbid obesity, which is a chronic, non-communicable disease that can lead to numerous complications to the patient’s health. After performing this type of surgery, it is common to experience significant weight loss, which may lead to excess skin, causing discomfort and emotional and psychological problems for the patient.

Faced with this situation, many patients seek plastic surgery of a reconstructive or functional nature to remove excess skin. However, there are doubts about the obligation of the HMO to pay for these procedures, as some claim that they have an aesthetic purpose and, therefore, would not be covered by the contractual coverage and the list of mandatory procedures in the ANS.
