Disputes over religious persecution continued during the Winter Games

In addition to the podiums, medals, and milestones achieved, the Winter Olympics nearing their conclusion in Beijing had another element, one that was not so attractive and enriching for the world of sport: religious persecution.

According to a survey conducted by the NGO Open Doors, China ranks 17th in the list of countries most dangerous for Christians. For the Democracy Without Borders movement, the repression imposed by the local government on these groups is a major concern, as any people should have the right to express their faith.

Human rights organizations reported arrests of Muslim residents for religious re-education. China denies the allegations.

And before the start of the Games there were protests over this situation. So the United States started a movement to boycott gaming. Despite releasing their teams to the conflict, the North Americans accompanied by Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands and Denmark did not send diplomatic figures to the event.
