Ding Junhui hit three centuries to claim his fourth UK Championship win after a dominant first session in the final against Mark Allen at York.

The Chinese player, who has dropped to 38th in the world rankings, is trying to become the first top-ranked player to win the prestigious tournament since winning his first title in 2005.

Ding, who handed Ronnie O’Sullivan his first major whitewash early in the tournament, was again in relentless form to take a 6-2 lead into the final session on Sunday night.

Scores of 52 and 70 put Ding in command, and although Allen finished third, successive Ding centuries of 126 and 135 either side of the break put him in complete control.

Allen looked all round as he conceded two good chances to put Ding 5-1 up, and was mercilessly punished when he allowed Ding a missed straight red in a quick break for 102.

Allen gave himself a glimmer of hope by capitalizing on Ding’s missed red to post a winning frame of 79 in the last frame of the afternoon session.
