CNA discusses the implications of EU and UK due diligence for Brazilian agriculture

The theme went live on Tuesday (30).

Brasilia (08/31/2022)

– Brazil’s Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) held a live broadcast on Tuesday (30) entitled “Due Diligence of the European Union and the United Kingdom: Implications for International Trade of Brazilian Agriculture”.

The discussion was attended by Matheus de Andrade, Technical Adviser of CNA’s Directorate of International Relations, and Fernando Zellner, Assistant Secretary of Commerce and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Direct mediation was carried out by Claudia Magalhães, Technical Advisor of CNA Sustainability Coordination.

The secretary of Mapa also demonstrated the concern of the Brazilian government regarding the construction of legislation that takes into account environmental issues in an unbalanced way with social and economic issues.

“We are not against initiatives, but we question the form and alternative policy chosen by the European Union and the United Kingdom to address the issue of deforestation, without properly taking into account the pillars of sustainability. There is also the downgrading of the national law of producing countries, rejecting the fact that Brazil has one of the most advanced laws in the world, the Brazilian Forest Code. .

According to Zellner, the Brazilian government participated in public consultations and proposed measures that could mitigate or reduce impacts. Look
