TheChilean authorities on Monday began investigating a mysterious 25-meter crater that appeared this weekend in the north of the country.

According to the images published by Reuters, it can be seen that the pit is located near a copper mine in Lundin Mining, in Tierra Amarilla, about 665 kilometers north of the capital Santiago.

The agency quoted David Montenegro, director of the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernagomen), that the authority has sent specialized personnel to the site.

“There is a great distance, about 200 meters, to the bottom,” the Montenegrin expert revealed. “We didn’t detect any substance there, but we did see that there was a lot of water.”

The area, meanwhile, was closed to human access as well as a portion of the mine. No workers or local residents were affected.

See in the pictures this strange and mysterious hole that appeared in Chile.
