A second radar plane is due to be delivered to Chile tomorrow (29) and a third will source spare parts.

Last Wednesday (27) the Chilean Air Force (Fach) received its first E-3D Sentry radar aircraft, operated by the Royal Air Force. The aircraft landed at II Air Brigade at Budahuel Air Base located at Santiago International Airport (SCL).

In February, Chile confirmed the purchase of three E-3 Senri, with the third aircraft being used as a source for spare parts. The aircraft will carry out surveillance, space reconnaissance and air command and control missions.

Fach needs a new radar plane. The South American country has only one EC-707 Condor, received in 1995, a design based on the classic Boeing 707 modified by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI).

The E-3D Sentry was retired by the UK Royal Air Force in October 2021. Radar aircraft entered service in 1991, replacing the older Avro Shackleton AEW Mk 2

In South America, only Chile and Brazil operate flights with this strategy. The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) operates the E-99, an Embraer ERJ 145 modified for this type of military mission.

The second E-3D Sentry radar aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Chile this Friday (29).
