Glasgow-based indie outfit Brontës have released their latest single, “Asking For A Friend”, as anticipation builds ahead of their self-titled debut album, due for release on 21 April.
The track marks the fourth digital single from the forthcoming record, which will be issued via independent label Last Night From Glasgow. The release forms part of a structured rollout campaign that has seen the band steadily expand their audience through a mix of recorded output and live performances.
Exploring vulnerability in latest release
“Asking For A Friend” centres on the emotional uncertainty of developing romantic feelings within an existing friendship, a theme the band presents through a blend of melodic indie-pop and lyrical introspection.
The single is introduced with the line: “My head is saying that I should just stay put in the lonely hearts club”, setting the tone for a narrative that balances hesitation and desire. The repeated refrain “asking for a friend” reflects an attempt to mask genuine emotions, highlighting the tension between honesty and self-protection.
Musically, the track continues Brontës’ established approach of combining accessible pop structures with guitar-driven arrangements, while reinforcing their positioning within the UK’s emerging indie-pop segment.
Structured single rollout builds momentum
The latest release follows a sequence of singles that collectively showcase the band’s range and underpin the album’s commercial positioning.
Debut single “Cognitive Dissonance”, released in August, introduced the campaign with an upbeat indie-rock sound, characterised by prominent guitar hooks and lyrics addressing jealousy and emotional conflict.
This was followed by “San Francisco”, which offered a more restrained and reflective tone, focusing on the concept of missed timing in relationships. The third single, “Wouldn’t Be Me”, released in February, adopted a more playful stance as an anti-Valentine’s anthem aimed at themes of independence and self-assertion.
Together, the four singles form a cohesive pre-release strategy designed to highlight different aspects of the band’s songwriting and broaden their appeal across audiences.
Album release supported by live events
The self-titled debut album will be made available across multiple formats, including vinyl, CD and digital platforms, aligning with current industry trends that favour both physical collector editions and streaming accessibility.
To support the launch, Brontës have scheduled a series of live events in Glasgow. These include a listening party and stripped-back performance at Loud & Clear on 23 April, a headline show at LNFG Towers on 25 April, and an appearance at the label’s Birthday Bash event at Cottiers on 9 May.
Such activity reflects a continued emphasis on live performance as a key driver of audience engagement and revenue generation within the independent music sector.
Building a presence in the UK indie scene
Formed in Glasgow, Brontës comprise Eva (vocals/guitar), Amelia (drums/vocals), Erin (guitar/vocals) and Katie (bass/vocals). The group have repositioned themselves as a four-piece rock/pop act, drawing influence from established pop and new wave artists including Sabrina Carpenter, Blondie and The Ronettes.
Since emerging in 2021, the band have developed a growing profile on the live circuit, including a sold-out headline performance at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and appearances at festivals across the UK.
Their partnership with Last Night From Glasgow began in 2021, with early releases including the AA-side single “First Hand Arrogance” and “Groove” in 2022, which attracted coverage from independent music publications. Subsequent singles, including “Down To You” and “He’s Not Racist”, demonstrated continued evolution in their sound.
In 2024, the band released their debut EP, “Element of Revival”, accompanied by a remix from Roller Disco Death Party, followed by further singles “Strange Town” and “Headlines”.
Positioning for next phase
The debut album, recorded at Beetroot Studio in Ayrshire with producer Stuart MacLeod, represents a significant milestone for the group as they transition from emerging act to a more established presence within the UK indie market.
With a consistent release strategy, expanding live schedule and clear artistic direction, Brontës are positioning themselves as one of Glasgow’s notable new entrants in the indie-pop space, as they prepare to enter the next stage of their development.
