In his resignation letter to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Sunak noted the “tremendous challenges” facing the country and stressed that citizens are ready to “hear the truth”.
“In preparation for our proposed joint address on the economy next week, it has become clear to me that our approaches differ fundamentally,” Sunak added.
The minister added that he was “sad to leave the government, but reluctantly came to the conclusion that we cannot continue like this.”
The resignation comes after Health Minister Sajid Javid stepped down in what appears to be a protest against Johnson’s leadership, especially after a series of scandals involving the British Prime Minister’s government in recent months.
Recently, Johnson narrowly survived a no-confidence vote by members of the Conservative Party, who questioned his leadership. (Ansa)
