The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, on Friday appointed Spaniard Pedro Serrano Ambassador of the European Commission in the United KingdomWho will replace the Portuguese Joao Valle de Almeida.

Pedro Serrano, Head of the Office of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has also held various positions of responsibility in the institutions of the European Commission.

Most recently, he served as Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) for the Common Security and Defense Policy for Crisis Response.

The Spaniard will replace Joao Valle de Almeida, the European Union ambassador in London, who on January 29 reached 65, the retirement age for European institutions.

Borrell also appointed Director of Security Policy at the German Ministry of Defense, Benedicta von sur-Thus, as Director General of Joint Security and Defense Policy and Stefano Tomatt, an official at EEAS, as Director General of Capacity and Civil Planning, the headquarters from which community-based civilian missions are managed.
