Benfica misses the Women's European Cup final – Handball

On Sunday, Benfica failed to qualify for the Women's European Cup final, with a draw (30-30) against the Slovak team Michalovce, which went to Luz with a two-goal advantage (30-28) in the first leg.

With the score of the first half negative (17-20), Benfica was able to respond in overtime and advance (25-23), but without achieving a comfortable advantage.

The Slovaks did not give up and tied (25-25), followed by a match of stoppage and response.

The Luz team took the lead again (26-25) and controlled the pace of the match without letting the opposing team escape from the scoreboard.

This was followed by an advantage of one goal (28-27), two goals (29-27) and open goal failures, which gave confidence to the Slovak national team, but with everything open in the last minutes.

The Reds' series of mistakes, even with the numerical superiority, gave the lead to the more experienced team, which knew how to control the final moments.

For Benfica, highlights include Alexandra Chonu, with 7 goals and 88% effectiveness, and Ana Silva with 6 (55%).

Goalkeeper Ana Urso, who made 14 saves (41%), also deserved more.
