On Monday (3), the national influenza vaccination campaign started. In Belo Horizonte, about 1 million people from the campaign’s priority group are expected to be vaccinated.

In the mining capital, vaccination is done in stages. Initially, the elderly are vaccinated from the age of 80, the bedridden population residing in long-term institutions, pregnant and postpartum women (up to 45 days after childbirth), as well as immunosuppressed persons and workers of health centers, UPAs and hospitals.

Other groups designated by the Ministry of Health as a priority for the public will be called upon to receive the flu shot over the next few weeks. According to the Director of Health Promotion and Epidemiological Surveillance, Paulo Roberto Corre, the vaccine is now available in all regional offices in the city.

“We have 152 vaccination points spread across the city, as well as two additional jobs. The campaign’s D-day will also be set in April so that we also have vaccinations on weekends,” explains the director.

Influenza vaccination aims to reduce complications, hospitalizations, and deaths from influenza virus infection. The trivalent vaccine protects against three viruses (H1N1, H3N2, and influenza B virus). It is important to stress that there are no contraindications to taking the flu vaccine and other vaccinations, such as the Covid-19 vaccine, on the same day.

To receive the vaccination, it is necessary to present an identity document and a vaccination card. Postpartum women must provide a document such as a birth certificate, a pregnant woman’s card, and a document from the hospital where the birth took place.
