According to the governor of Pardubice, the freight train was carrying dangerous materials and about 300 people were on board the passenger train.

At least four people were killed and dozens injured following a collision between a passenger train and a freight train in the Czech city of Pardubice, according to reports. CNN Prime Newsciting a local emergency service spokesman.

“A passenger train and a goods train collided in Pardubice,” local police revealed in a post on their official X social media account, adding that a “shock plan” had been activated as “there are a large number of injured people at the scene.”

The passenger train continued with 300 people on board, fire department spokesman Martin Kafka told CNN Prima News. He added, “The priority is to remove all passengers from the train and care for the injured.”

The same source quoted the governor of Pardubice, Martin Nitolicki, as saying that the freight train was carrying dangerous materials and “suffered serious damage.”

A journalist from Czech TV station CT24 also shared a video from the scene.

Meanwhile, Czech Prime Minister Peter Fiala had previously responded to the incident through a post on the same social network, in which he described what happened as a “great shame” and expressed his “sincere condolences” to all the victims.
