The Vila Nova de Cervera City Council has guaranteed around €1 million for the rehabilitation works of the local health centre, with a deadline for completion of June 2026.

The signing ceremony of the contract for financing the Recovery and Resilience Plan – PRR, was held on Friday, at the headquarters of the CCDR-N, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, and the Deputy Minister and Regional Cohesion, Castro Almeida.

Ruy Teixeira, President of the City Council, emphasizes that he “will continue to fight, with the Trusteeship, for more and better responses for the residents of Cervera within the scope of primary health care.”

The mayor of the city classifies the funded intervention as “urgent, providing better conditions for both health workers and users, ensuring access to quality healthcare, in a modern and accessible environment.”

The planned work comes as a result of a joint request by the Inter-Municipal Community of Alto Minho, which includes the ten municipalities of Alto Minho, and the Local Health Unit of Alto Minho, EPE, for “primary health care”, for the purpose of intervention at the level of energy efficiency, and compliance with plans emergencies and/or ensure accessibility and enhance the safety and comfort of users and professionals.

In addition to rehabilitating the health center facilities and equipment and adapting them to new models of healthcare delivery, the intervention to be implemented also aims to correct regional and local disparities.

It should be noted that this 1ME investment to improve the health center in Vila Nova de Cervera is part of a broader government plan of 196.7ME of the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR), to build new health centers and rehabilitate hospitals. Existing structures in the north and center of the country, in a total of 193 projects.
