The Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Angola recently traveled to Dubai to try to enforce the arrest warrant issued by the Angolan authorities to Isabel dos Santos, at the request of President Joao Lourenco.

Hélder Pitta Gróz, advancing on Business Journal On Tuesday, he flew on a plane chartered by the Angolan presidency, accompanied by two prosecutors who are certain the UAE authorities will cooperate with Angolan justice. However, upon his arrival in Dubai, PGR was stopped by UAE police forces.

Although Angola and the UAE do not have any extradition treaty, the same newspaper says it found that guarantees were given to the Angolan PGR that the country would cooperate, which ultimately did not happen.

Businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, who is under investigation on suspicion of corruption, spends most of her time at the five-star Bulgari Resort, located in Dubai.

Despite being the target of an Interpol “red alert” since December, meaning the international agency accepted an arrest warrant issued by Angola, Isabel dos Santos continues to divide her time between Dubai and London, where her children live. So far UK police have stopped him.

In the arrest warrant, the Angolan state alleges that Isabel dos Santos will harm her country with more than 200 million euros and accuses her of embezzlement, criminal association, influence peddling and money laundering.

This was the second time Helder Beta Groz had tried to arrest Isabel dos Santos, Negusius recalled. A year ago, as the newspaper first reported at the time, the businesswoman was arrested and heard by the Dutch judicial authorities following a complaint filed by the Angolan PGR. This entity requested his subsequent arrest and detention, but the request was not accepted by the Dutch authorities.
