A source close to the UNITA Lusa administration said on Thursday that in the request to cancel the elections, which was sent to the Transitional Council, “several complaints, which constitute irregularities,” were listed throughout the electoral process.

The leader of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) declared, Friday, his victory in the Angolan elections for the first time, through his account on the social networking site Twitter, promising to defend “the sovereignty and the vote of the people.” .

Angolans, UNITA won the elections! We will defend the people’s sovereignty and their vote,” wrote Adalberto Costa Júnior, challenging the National Elections Commission (CNE) to compare the records it has with those it gave to opposition parties and confirmed that they do not accept the published results.

Adalberto da Costa Júnior was posted on Twitter at 00:22, shortly after releasing a video statement, in which he also expressed himself regarding the results of the general election held on August 24, but without declaring victory.

In that statement, the UNITA leader promised that he would not abandon those who voted for the party and justified the silence that his political formation had maintained on this issue regarding processes related to “electoral disputes, the deadlines of which continue and are provided by law”. , referring to complaints in the National Electoral Council.

UNITA demanded that the National Electoral Council compare the polling station records in its possession with those of the parties, opposing the fact that the authorities did not even indicate the data on the polling stations, which allowed the final calculation.

The largest opposition party made a parallel count of the summary records compiled by its delegates, “A delicate and complex process is now in its final stage.”According to Adalberto Costa Júnior.

The Angolan National Committee on Monday announced the final results that gave the MPLA an absolute majority victory, a result contested by UNITA.

CNE President Manuel Pereira da Silva declared the People’s Liberation Movement of Angola (MPLA) and its candidate, Joao Lourenço, the winner with 51.17% of the vote, followed by UNITA with 43.95%.

With these results, the MPLA elected 124 deputies and UNITA elected 90 deputies, double the 2017 elections.

The Broad Convergence to Save Angola – Coalition Electoral (CASA-CE), APN and P-Njango did not get seats in the National Assembly, which will have 220 deputies in the legislature 2022-2027.
