Wimbledon, UK, June 28, 2021 (AFP) – Andy Murray, world number 118 and 34, won his first Wimbledon match on Monday since his 2017 quarter-final elimination by Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (28) With a score of 6-4, 6.3, 5-7, 6-3.

“It feels great to be back playing on center court in an environment like this,” the two-time British champion celebrated on grass (2013 and 2016).

As in his good times, Murray opened two straight sets to zero and 5-0 in the third. But although he served three times to win the match and scored two match points with a score of 5-3, he could not prevent the Georgian from playing 7 games in a row and winning the set.

The game is then stopped to allow the retractable lid to close at nightfall.

On the way back, Murray was able to finish the match with the support of the fans, on his fourth match point.

“He always asks me ‘Is this your last Wimbledon, your last match?'” “No, I will keep playing. I want to play. I love it. I can always play at the highest level. He (Basilashvili) is ranked among the top 30 players in the world and although he only played a few matches, I won. Previous No. 1 worldwide for an enthusiastic audience.

Two-time Olympic champion Murray is struggling to get back to his best after hip surgery in January 2018 and a recent thigh injury.

In the next stage, he will face the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (109) or the German Oscar Otti (151), both of whom are from the qualifiers.
