Anatel President Receives UK Ambassador

The President of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Carlos Baigorri, attended this Thursday, 1/19, the UK Ambassador to Brazil Stephanie Al-Khaq and her delegation, together with the Head of the International Office, Ronaldo Neves Moura. Filho.

Anatel and the United Kingdom are working together within the scope of technical cooperation that began with a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2020. Among related products, an in-depth review, recommendations and a manual on social networks stand out. This project was implemented in collaboration with Association for Progressive Communication (APC).

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Brazil joins the Network of Partners in the Digital Access Program.Digital Access Program – DAP), maintained by the Prosperity Fund (Prosperity Fund) of the British Government with South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Indonesia.

The partnership aims to develop programs that contribute to improving the process of digital inclusion and digital transformation in the country in an accessible, inclusive, safe and secure way for vulnerable populations.

According to the ambassador, the partnership with Anatel is very important because it is a project to improve connectivity and he pointed out that “connectivity leads to growth”. As for social networks, the problem has been added to the regulatory agenda because social networks are a “vector of citizenship,” the Anatel president said.

The meeting started with an explanation Association for Progressive Communication Through video conference with the progress of the work and the participation of directors, supervisors and representatives of civil society, reinforced the importance of social networks to serve neglected urban, rural or remote areas, with the aim of multiplying the Internet in Brazil.

A representative of Rhizomatica, who participated in the production of material with APC, made some comments today about the situation of social networks in Brazil. Later, the platform was given to civil society representatives who highlighted the difficulties in creating, using and maintaining social networking.

The President of Anatel actively participated in the discussion and announced the formation of WG-Social Networks, which will be coordinated by Counselor Vicente Aquino.

The purpose of creating this working group is to bring the dialogue closer with the civil society and to discuss ways to improve and more reliability of social networks to break down barriers and overcome challenges.

Some countries, such as Argentina and Mexico, have regulated social networks. In Brazil, social networks operate following the guidelines of the Anatel Resolution recognizing Private Limited Services Regulation (SLP).
