United Kingdom Ambassador to Brazil Stephanie Al-Khaq met with Ukraine's Ambassador to Brazil Andriy Melnyk in Brasilia last week. They took the opportunity to talk about topics of mutual interest and British support for Ukraine in the current conflict with Russia.

Recently, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, David Cameron, traveled to Paris and Rome for talks with French President Macron, Italian Prime Minister Meloni and the Foreign Secretary's counterparts. Gaza, as well as maintaining support for Ukraine. Fighting illegal immigration was also discussed.

During his visit, Cameron reiterated his call for a lasting ceasefire that would lead to sustainable peace, and the need for greater coordination among European allies to ensure that vital aid can reach Gaza to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people. It also reaffirmed its continued support for Ukraine to defend itself through military, humanitarian and economic means.

UK-Ukraine relations

Since the United Kingdom (UK) recognized Ukraine's independence in 1992, bilateral relations between the two countries have been increasingly deepened, especially since the signing of the Political, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership Agreement (PFTSPA) in 2020.

This strategic partnership only deepened with Russia's aggression against Ukraine. As intelligence revealed that the Kremlin would renew its offensive, Britain began providing large amounts of financial, humanitarian and military support to Ukraine.

Decisive action by HM Government in January and February 2022 ensured that Ukraine was able to secure Kiev, and since then the UK has continued to lead Europe in support of Ukraine.
