Following the campaign started by Marcus Rashford, the British government will establish a “school fund” to help feed children from needy families during the holidays in the country.

Children eligible for free school meals during term time in England will receive a voucher for six weeks. According to the BBC, Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed “Rashford's contribution to the debate on poverty.”

– I don't even know what to say. Just look at what we can do when we come together – Rashford wrote on Twitter.

The fund will allocate around £15 per week per person and will cost the English government around £120 million.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official spokesman told reporters that the expanded scheme is “a specific measure that reflects the unique circumstances of the pandemic.”

Referring to Rashford, he added: “The Prime Minister welcomes his contribution to the poverty debate and respects the fact that he is using his profile as an outstanding sportsman to highlight important issues.”

Rashford's efforts have also been praised in the world of football. Van der Sar, the former Manchester United goalkeeper and current Ajax coach, was one of the names to pay tribute to the young striker.

– Well done, Marcus Rashford. Make a difference on the ground, with free school meals and the government backing you too! Good luck in resuming play on the field this week with Manchester United, Van de Sar said, referring to the Red Devils' duel against Tottenham in the resumption of the English championship.
