A touching word from an Israeli coach: “The world of football has let me down”

“I talked to Michael. He is a wonderful nine-year-old boy. He loves football and is a Barcelona fan. On the morning of October 7, Hamas entered his house. They killed his parents and kidnapped his two-year-old sister. He and his other six-year-old sister managed to hide in a closet and heard from there how their parents were killed. (…) It is just one case of hundreds of atrocities that occurred that day. They say that football connects nations, races and peoples. There is always talk of peace and respect, but I ask where is the respect for the 1,400 people who were killed. Innocent young men and women who just wanted to celebrate in peace. Entire families were burned alive in their homes. The girls were raped and killed. He said that pregnant women’s stomachs were cut into two halves and their children were killed by bullets.
