Seismic activity is still being felt on the Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas about a week after the 7.6 magnitude earthquake, with approximately 1,248 measurable tremors recorded so far.

A new 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Japan on Tuesday. According to the Japan Meteorological AgencyThe earthquake was recorded at 17:59 (8:59 in Lisbon) at a depth of ten kilometers.

Ten minutes later, the earthquake was followed by a 3.9 magnitude aftershock.

The new shock comes on the day that the authorities issued a new provisional tally of the number of deaths resulting from the earthquake that occurred on January 1. According to authorities in Ishikawa, where the disaster occurred, the earthquake killed at least 202 people.

Rescue teams continue their search for missing persons, whose numbers varied due to the difficulties of counting them in isolated areas, with the difficulty of reaching them due to the closure of roads damaged by the earthquake.

More than three thousand residents of the peninsula are still cut off from the world, waiting for help, which has been delayed by rain, snow and landslides.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida today asked ministers to “solve” the problem of communities still isolated on the Noto Peninsula and “stubbornly continue rescue operations.”

About 28,000 people remain displaced and more than 15,000 homes are still without electricity, with thermometers showing negative temperatures in the affected areas, prompting authorities to demand attention to possible cases of hypothermia.

The Japanese government is trying to move displaced people to centers outside disaster areas, where providing basic necessities is not a problem.

Japanese authorities called for increased precautionary measures due to rain and snow in areas affected by the earthquake.

Seismic activity is still being felt on the Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas about a week after the 7.6-magnitude quake struck, with approximately 1,248 measurable tremors recorded so far, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported.
