It all started with a warning. On November 14, Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, leader of the Houthis, the rebel group that today controls a significant portion of Yemeni territory, threatened to attack any ship or vessel with ties to Israel that transits the Red Sea and the North Sea. Bab al-Mandab Strait. The narrow sea passage, 29 kilometers wide, separates the African continent from the Arabian Peninsula It is a transit point for 12% of global trade.

Days later, on November 19, a Houthi commando armed with a helicopter landed on the Galaxy Leader, a vehicle transporting a cargo ship crossing the Red Sea, and seized the ship. The fighters filmed the seizure, and the ship was transported to the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, where it became a tourist attraction for many Yemenis and a propaganda trophy for the armed group. Hey The attack marked the beginning of a naval battle in the Red Sea Which actually destabilized trade between Europe and Asia and attracted the fleets of many countries to exchange fire in the region.
