Apple is being sued by a citizen who did not understand the concept of “iCloud Messages.” The user deleted conversations he had with a prostitute on his iPhone, but his wife was able to access these messages on her iMac. As a result, the divorce cost him around €6 million and he now wants the Cupertino company to take responsibility.

Since iOS 8.1 and macOS

Although it was initially launched to make life easier for users, so that they can have the same content on their devices (as long as they share the same Apple account), this functionality sometimes poses confidentiality issues in some homes. This is the case of a British man who exchanged several messages with a prostitute, all of which were transferred to the family's iMac...

Brett blames Apple for his divorce

A British man named Richard recently took legal action against Apple after discovering compromising messages on a family iMac that led to his divorce.

According to the The New York TimesRichard, who secretly exchanged messages with a prostitute via iMessage on his iPhone, believes he has removed all traces of that conversation by deleting the messages from his iPhone. However, due to automatic syncing of Apple devices, these messages remained visible on the family's iMac.

Richard, who is married and keen to hide his conversations, said he did not know that messages deleted from his iPhone were still visible on the iMac in his living room.

a Automatic sync Apple allowed his wife to discover compromising conversations in the Messages app on macOS, thus exposing Richard's infidelity.

The conversation revolved around sexual practices and the amounts that the prostitute receives, a discovery that prompted the wife to initiate divorce proceedings as quickly as possible.

A divorce that cost millions

This incident, which showed the wife's betrayal of her husband, led to a divorce process that ended with a million dollars being paid to the wife. Unsurprisingly, with the overwhelming evidence presented by Richard's wife in court, the judge quickly ruled in favor of the complainant. As a result, Richard had to pay more than 5 million pounds sterling (equivalent to about 6 million euros).

However, the man says he hopes to recover this amount through legal action against Apple.
