A doctor at Santarém Hospital refuses to treat an unconscious elderly man – Community

The case occurred last Sunday, around 2:30 p.m., after firefighters tried unsuccessfully to contact CODU in two phone calls, lasting more than 8 minutes, to find out in which hospital unit the victim, aged 88, lived. In Santarem.

With no response from CODU and with an unconscious elderly man inside the ambulance, the team went to the emergency room of Santarem Hospital, where they reported being ill and being decomposed by one of the doctors on duty.

“Don’t you know that the hospital is closed? What did you come here to do to this victim?”, said the doctor, according to the firefighters’ complaint, which was sent to the leadership of the institution, to the Santarém Chamber, to the hospital itself and to the Doctors’ Association.

The incident occurred “inside the emergency room and the entire nursing team listened to what this doctor said,” the complainants said, explaining that they reported the situation “because they did not consider this to be a situation worthy of a health care professional.” The firefighters added: “It is unacceptable for the Capital Hospital to go to the point of not providing assistance in any situation.”
