In a deal worth about $957 million, the United States approved the sale of 3,000 AGM-179A surface-to-air missiles to the United Kingdom for its fleet of Apache helicopters.

Apart from the JAGMs, the Hellfire K1 and Hellfire Romeo missiles will also be fully qualified and integrated into the British Apache AH-64E aircraft.

According to the sale notice:

The State Department has taken the decision to approve the foreign military sale of Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM) to the UK government at a cost of $957.4 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) today issued the necessary certification to notify Congress of this potential sale.

The United Kingdom government requested the purchase of three thousand Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM), AGM-179A. These include intercontinental ballistic missiles; Technical Assistant; Publications; Integration support; Logistics and other relevant elements of program support. The proposed sale would support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.

The proposed sale will improve the UK’s ability to deal with current and future threats. The UK will use enhanced capability to defend internal security and deter regional threats. The United Kingdom will have no difficulty absorbing these equipment and services into its armed forces.

The prime contractor is Lockheed Martin Corporation, Orlando, FL. There are no known compensation arrangements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
