The Socialists and Democrats group lost three seats in the European Parliament on Tuesday. At stake now are the three MEPs with links to SMER, the party of former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, which is preparing to return to power with the support of the far right.

Dr Already announced last week She said she would go ahead with the suspension of MEPs, but the decision would only become official on Tuesday, during a meeting of the group to which the Socialist Party belongs.

According to information provided by Pedro Márquez to journalists in Strasbourg, Monica Pinova and Katarina Ruth Nevelova chose to resign from the group before the suspension took effect. A third MP, Robert Hajssel, who was elected from the SMER lists, was suspended, despite being in the European Parliament as an independent.

According to PS MEP who is also Vice President Dear socialists and democrats, the removal of these representatives is based entirely on their affiliation to a party that signed a memorandum of understanding with the extreme right at the national level, and there have been no previous incidents that make the expulsion of these representatives clear.

SMER (Social Democratic Directorate) was invited to form the government at the beginning of the month, after winning the elections by 23.3%. Last week, Robert Fico announced the formation of a coalition with the social democrats of the HLAS party and the ultranationalists of the SNS party.
