YuThe converted van, complete with a rooftop terrace, has been home to Mike Lever for 30 years, 10 of which he spent traveling. But for two decades, the British man remained in the same place, in Porthmadog, Wales, spending about 25 pounds (about €28) a week, mostly on laundry.
Born in Birmingham, England, the man spends his days writing novels on the computer, despite his aversion to technology, he told North Wales Live.
His lifestyle, rooted in a childhood marked by bullying at school, means he lives without electricity, central heating or running water. In fact, the man admitted that he did his best to “escape” as many times as he could, and ended up seeing the world.
“As a vegan, committed recycler, who has never owned a TV or been seduced by consumerism, I have kept my expenses very low. For example, I burn wood scraps, heat bath water on gas rings and eat cabbage leaves—a flower with chutney,” guaranteed. At the same time.
After completing his studies, Leaver converted an industrial warehouse into an apartment, lived on a boat and even in an office, before accepting the challenge of converting a truck—what he’d called home for 30 years.
“I love Porthmadog, mainly because it is a friendly town within easy reach for walking and climbing in wonderful Snowdonia. It also has a stunning coastline and sea on the doorstep. There is a lively mix of Welsh, English and visitors, as well as a short but fascinating history of industrial heritage.”
His advice to young people is to “put down the TV” and learn to play board games with the family.
