Russian forces are “attacking from several directions,” with the aim of “advancing towards the central regions,” Col. Oleksandr Sersky told the Ukrainian press on Monday. The same official said that Ukrainian forces were successfully repelling Russian attacks and that paramilitary units of the Wagner Group had suffered “significant losses” as they advanced around the city in eastern Ukraine.

“The situation around Bakhmut is still difficult. Wagner offensive units are advancing in several directions, trying to break through the defenses of our troops and reach the central areas of the cities,” He repeated, in a note published in the telegram of the Military Information Center of Ukraine.

On the other hand, Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Russian paramilitary Wagner Group, admitted that The “closer” they are to the “City Center, the harder the fight will be”.


Prigozhin also admitted that Ukrainian forces are fighting “fiercely for the city”.“The situation in Bakhmut is very difficult, the enemy is fighting every meter,” Prigozhin said via telegram.


The head of the Wagner Group added that he intended to start recruiting more soldiers as soon as he conquered Bakhmut.

“In particular, we will start recruiting new people from the regions.”.


On Sunday, Russian and Ukrainian authorities said hundreds of their soldiers had been killed in 24 hours of fighting in Bakhmut.

Serhiy Chervaty, a spokesman for the Ukrainian military, said 221 Russian servicemen were killed and more than 300 wounded in Bakhmut.

The Russian Defense Ministry said at least 210 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in the wider Donetsk region on the front lines.
